Key Components of My Training:
-
Relationship Based Dog Training
I want to help you create a cohesive relationship with your dog, no more fighting or frustration. Instead replace that with a relationship where both parties are understood and fulfilled in their roles.
-
Science Based Dog Training
We use concepts like clicker training, the ABC's of applied behaviour analysis, classical and operant conditioning and more evidence based concepts to understand, teach and change dog behaviour.
-
LIMA Based Dog Training
LIMA training methods mean: least intrusive, minimally aversive training. As a trainer, I am proud to help you find creative solutions without the use of fear, force or intimidation.
More About Amanda's Story...
I have 3 dogs of my own at home. My oldest is Libby the German Shorthaired Pointer. Then there is Finnigan the Vizsla, who really started my journey into learning all about dog behaviour. And now, we have our foster fail, tri-pawd Australian Shepherd named Raven who we got at 6 weeks of age.
Prior to starting The Wiser Canine, I completed multiple levels of Obedience training with my own dogs while offering part time dog walking services. But when my dog Finnigan was showing signs of fear and reactivity, I knew something was missing from my tool belt. I started digging into behaviour science and was hooked. I self studied for about a year while continuing to walk dogs part time. Then I started in the Karen Pryor Academy and completed the Professional Training Program. I was fortunate to learn from some great trainers while I assisted in puppy and manners group classes at one of the leading positive-based training schools in Toronto. Now, I continue to educate myself in the world of training.
The Wiser Canine started in Hamilton, Ontario where I lived for the last 10 years. I was lucky to help dogs & their families for over 2 years in the area.
I am excited to bring my expertise and knowledge to the area I grew up in - Windsor Essex County. Fun fact - this area is where The Wiser Canine got it's name - when my family adopted our first dog, our sweet black lab that the Windsor Essex Humane Society had named Wiser.
From the city to the suburbs, I can help you with your dog training goals.
Proud to be a Karen Pryor Certified Training Partner.
As a KPA CTP, I promise to teach and train using force-free principles so that you and your dog develop a bond built on trust and respect.

We chose Amanda and the wiser canine because of positive google reviews, but actually working with Amanda truly exceeded our high expectations. Amanda was organized and responsive which allowed us to easily communicate with her and schedule our sessions. Amanda comes to you allowing sessions to take place in the comfort of your own home. Amanda was punctual, was always prepared for the sessions, and she was a wealth of knowledge always taking time to answer our questions. We used her services for basic training for our new rescue and could not be more happy with the results and the bond we have developed as a result of her guidance and expertise. Thank you Amanda, we will miss our regular sessions with you, but we will use you again if needed and recommend you to all of our family and friends!!

Amanda does amazing work! She did such a good job at teaching me how to better interact and guide my super anxious + fearful dog through the world. Amanda helped me build a solid foundation to work from that has guided our progress. She's patient and kind, and my dog adores her! She really helped him come out of his shell. Cannot recommend enough.

Can’t say enough about Amanda! She is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and patient. We did the 5 week puppy program with our 5 month old lab and she has responded so well to the training - helping not only our pup but us as new dog owners. Amanda provides detailed notes following each session that are extremely helpful to refer back to and continue practicing with our pup. Highly recommend The Wiser Canine!!

Amanda is an excellent dog trainer. My rescue mutt and I did 1:1 sessions with her to help with his reactivity and fear of car rides. She helped us develop individualized strategies to manage his reactivity and a training plan to help him develop confidence and to be more calm on walks. He has made a lot of progress and we both enjoy walks and car rides much more these days.
I really liked Amanda's personalized approach and her flexibility in scheduling training sessions. She provided written instructions after each session, which was helpful as we practiced what we learned independently. She was also very responsive to questions between sessions.
I look forward to continuing to work with Amanda on my pup's training journey.
